七草粥　Nanakusa gayu  is a traditional New Year’s event in Kyoto

春の七草粥　Nanakusa-gayu

(rice porridge with the seven herbs of spring)

We have eaten on the seventh day of the New Year, to hope to prevent to catch a cold and other disease. May your new year will be fortunate one.

「せり」 seri (Japanese parsley)

「なずな」　nazuna (shepherd‘s purse)

「ごぎょう」　gogyo (Jersey cudweed)

「はこべ」　hakobe (common chickweed)

「ほとけのざ」　hotoke no za (henbit)

「すずな」　suzuna (turnip) 

「すずしろ」　suzushiro (daikon)
